Operational / Contingency / Succession Planning for the Small Business Owner

Plan Design takes the mystery out of the operational/contingency/succession planning process. The primary purpose of this book is to protect the long-term survival of a business, especially single-owner operated businesses, by ensuring a company's continued day-to-day operation.

General guidelines and background information are provided so that the owner will have an idea of what to ask their legal, tax and other advisors. Forms are included that provide essential knowledge about the company's operation not common to estate planning.

Plans are divided into three distinctive parts: part one, a survivor's information guide; part two, a general operating plan; and part three, legal and tax planning typically associated with estate planning.

Part One: Survivor's Information Guide
A survivor's guide aids an owner's personal representative in locating information essential to the business' daily operation.

Part Two: General Operating Plan
The general operating plan is the blue print to ensure continued operation.

Part Three: Legal and Tax Planning
Legal and tax planning provide a means to transfer authority for operating the company and a process for transferring an owner's interest minimizing taxes should it be necessary.

Remember an estate plan basically distributes your money after you die, minimizing taxes and fees.

Plan Design is a spiral bound one-hundred-six page book laid out in a reference manual format. Chapter tabs make access easier. Templates include desirable information for a designated representative who may have to assume control on short notice without prior daily operating knowledge.

Implementation of any of the plans assumes an appointed representative will have to replace the principal owner sometimes on rather short notice. An owner who has operated their business as a daily participant called to active duty with the military or who may be temporarily disabled needs to ensure their operating company will be there when they are available once again to participate.
